Ron and Sherryl
"Last summer I felt I needed to find a lady to learn to dance with, a friend to have fun with, and most importantly to not be entangled in a long-term relationship. I put an ad in Yahoo! Personals with the above requirements, plus a few others regarding religion, age, and non-smoking.
"I found very few where a non long-term relationship was an acceptable requirement. At the time I immersed myself in couples dance lessons, taking as many as eight different lessons a week. Sherryl was also looking for a man to take her dancing, and not be entangled in a long-term relationship.
"She responded to my ad in September. After a few days of emails, we decided to meet for dinner. After that we took waltz and swing dance lessons and found that we really fit together. She responded to my lead as if we had danced all our lives together! Soon we found that we were not only having a great time dancing together, but that we enjoyed many of the same things day trips, foods, people watching, and so much more."
"We had only known each other for two months when I realized this lady was beginning to be so much more to me than just a friend and dance partner but I felt it was too soon to tell her! I spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at her home with her family and I moved from West Seattle to Mukilteo, Wash., during December 2002 to make it easier for us to find places where we could dance together.
"On New Year's Eve I found out that yes, she really did like me, because she gave me our first real meaningful kiss! WOW! I won't forget that one for sure! Sherryl also showed her affection for me by making sure she was involved in taking me to and from the hospital when I had some small corrective surgery in January."
"I decided to let Sherryl know that she meant a great deal more to me than just dance partner and friend. I suggested we go away for a long weekend retreat. I decided to talk to her two sons and let them know of my plans, but to keep it a surprise.
"On Valentine's Day we drove to The China Beach Retreat Inn for a three-night getaway. Before the weekend really got started, I presented her with a set of rings, a proposal that we take the next two years to get to really know and understand each other, be Significant Others, and then set a wedding date. Sherryl accepted my entire offer! We danced to CD music by firelight, we ate wonderful meals, did sight-seeing in Washington and Oregon, and with only candlelight in our room we watched the tides come and go. Yes, there are Yahoo! success stories!"
